"Halo: Spartan Strike" will expand the "Halo" universe with a top-down, twin-stick shooter on Dec. 14, IGN reports.

For $5.99, players can get the game on Steam or as a Windows 8/Windows Phone combo purchase. There are "currently no plans" to bring the game to Android, iOS, Xbox 360 or Xbox One, according to 343 Studios producer Fred LaPorte.

The spiritual successor to "Halo: Spartan Assault" is set during the events of Halo 2, and will include achievements, leaderboards and weekly challenges. Its predecessor from Vanguard Games launched for Windows PC and Windows mobile devices and later arrived on Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

"Halo: Spartan Strike" isn't the only Halo property on the docket this year. "Halo: The Master Chief Collection," a bundle that will encompass "Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary," "Halo 2 Anniversary," "Halo 3" and "Halo 4," is set for a Nov. 11 release on Xbox One. It will also include access to "Halo: Nightfall," an episodic series that will bridge the gap between "Halo 4" and "Halo 5: Guardians." The multiplayer beta for "Halo 5: Guardians" will begin Dec. 29.
