Robin Thicke made numerous public pleas and dedicated an entire album to his wife Paula Patton in a desperate attempt to win her back. Patton instead made their nearly eight-month separation permanent.

The actress filed for divorce from Thicke in a Los Angeles court, citing "irreconcilable differences," according to TMZ. Patton also wants joint custody of their 4-year-old son Julian.

The couple should have a "harmonious" divorce with no real issues of conflict to deal with, sources told TMZ.

Patton and Thicke separated on Feb. 21 after nine years of marriage. They last appeared in public together at the 2014 Grammy Awards.

"We will always love each other and be best friends; however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time," the couple said in a joint statement.

The "Blurred Lines" singer released his latest album entitled "Paula" in July. Thicke wrote and produced all 14 songs on the album and included songs with titles like "You're My Fantasy," "Love Can Grow Back" and "Too Little Too Late.'

He continued to wear his wedding ring while Patton removed hers. Thicke also dedicated many of his performances this summer to Patton.

"I'd like to dedicate this to my wife. I miss you and I'm sorry," he told an audience in June.

Thicke and Patton married on June 11, 2005. They welcomed their son April 6, 2010.
