A determinted 13-year-old girl who is already training with NASA could be the first human to ever step foot on Mars.

If everything goes according to plan, NASA is planning on sending a spaceship to Mars in 2033, and teenager Alyssa Carson says she will be on that ship.

"Failure is not an option," the young girl confidently says in a BBC video.

Carson says in the video she always wanted to become an astronaut, which motivated her to begin training with NASA nine years ago. She already attended all three of NASA's world camps, which are five-day training camps for future astronauts.

"I want to go to Mars because it is a place nobody has been," the teen tells BBC. "It is really deserted right now so I want to take that first step. I think that I have a high chance of going to Mars basically because I've been training for nine years so far. As I get older and continue to do more things the resume will just get longer and hopefully help me stand out and help me look unique compared to other people."

Paul Foreman, who works for NASA, said in the video that the space agency is taking Carson very seriously and wouldn't be surprised if she became the first person in the world to step on Mars in 2033.
