The first unofficial image of Nexus 9 surfaced online showing that the 8.9-inch tablet will be built by HTC, bearing a rubberized plastic unibody.

In the midst of speculation regarding the upcoming Nexus 9 tablet, a new image has leaked to confirm a few details about the tablet. In the first unofficial image of Nexus 9, the rear side of the tablet shows HTC branding that confirms the tablet will be built by the Taiwanese tech giant. The image comes from a reliable source, Upleaks on Twitter and was reported by Android Central.

Even as the first image of Nexus 9 has been unveiled, only the rear side of the tablet is shown that confirms various details. According to the report, Nexus 9 will feature a rear camera with LED flash and two new notches. The function of those unfamiliar notches remains unknown. Also, the microUSB port for charging is visible towards the bottom of the tablet.

In a separate report by The Inquirer, the tablet appears to be featuring a unique rubberized plastic built, first for HTC as it mainly uses metal unibody for flagship devices. The tablet also appears square as compared to other Android tablets.

Other details about the Nexus 9 are scanty but previous reports indicate the tablet to be among the first to run NVIDIA's Tegra K1 processor and Google's unreleased Android L operating system. The leaked image comes on the heels of a previous report indicating the Nexus 9 getting a FCC approval, Mashable reported.

The new tablet in the popular Nexus series is expected to take on the iPad with its 8.9-inch 2048x1440 resolution display. Other features include optional 4G LTE support, 32GB or 64GB internal storage, 8-megapixel rear camera mated with a 3MP front shooter and front facing speakers.

The Nexus 9 launch is widely expected to clash with the new iPad Air 2 release on October 16.
