Steven Patrick Morrissey, better known simply as "Morrissey," is being treated for cancer, The Mirror reported on Tuesday.

The former Smiths front man has been hospitalized on numerous occasions over the last year and a half, and has now opened up about the cancerous tissue that doctors found in his body.

The 55-year-old British singer said that despite his diagnosis, he doesn't fear death and accepts it as something that comes with life. He has not said what type of cancer he has.

"They have scraped cancerous tissues four times already, but whatever. If I die, then I die. And if I don't, then I don't," Morrissey told Spanish newspaper El Mundo.

He added: "I'm now at an age when I should no longer be making music".

He added that he feels good right now, but is aware that he looks somewhat sickly in recent photographs. This isn't worrying him, though, and the singer said he'll rest when he's dead.

A novel is also on the way, but Morrissey is reluctant to talk about it because it is not finalized yet. It's expected to be published next year.

Morrissey's health problems have been ongoing. The star had to cancel portions of his U.S. tour in June after coming down with a respiratory infection, according to the BBC. Last year, he missed 22 U.S. shows due to poor health. Pneumonia, anemia and an ulcer have all afflicted the Irish Blood, English Heart singer in recent years.

His next concert is scheduled for Thursday in Madrid, Spain and he is expected to play 30 other shows across Europe, commencing the tour in Greece in December.
