A developer website hosted by LG has teased the return of the webOS mobile operating system, and that it will make an appearance in the company's new smartwatch.

The company has since taken down the teaser image, which shows a software development kit for the webOS smartwatch alongside Bean Bird from LG's webOS TVs with an analog wristwatch attached to it, according to The Verge. The unveiling of the watch follows LG's purchase of webOS after the operating system was open-sourced by HP.

The device would be the latest addition to the South Korean tech company's collection of smartwatches, which include the G Watch and the G Watch R. Both of these watches use the Android Wear platform, with the later set to become available in stores later this month.

The teaser implies that LG is trying to make sure that not all of its devices use Android Wear, Gizmodo reported. This approach is similar to the one fellow South Korean tech giant Samsung, which uses the Tizen platform in just some of its smartwatches.

The legitimacy of this new smartwatch is still up in the air, according to a statement made by LG, The Verge reported.

"There are many initiatives going on at LG at any given moment," the company said. "The majority of them never see the light of day."
