Half of all married women have a backup husband in mind - just in case.

Daily Mail surveyed 1,000 women, and half of the participants admitted to having a "plan B guy" in the background if future problems arise in their current marriages.

The surveyed women also agreed that "Mr. Backup" is typically a guy who has always been in the picture. One in five women admit that their backup man has previously confessed his undying love and would drop everything for her, if asked.

This appears to be a trend for married couples, not so much those who are still in the dating stages of their relationships.

A SF Gate blogger warned that having a backup husband can be toxic to current unions.

"The energy you spend keeping one eye on your plan b or obsessing over 'what if' end of relationship scenarios is much better spent focusing on making your marriage work and keeping communication open and consistent," he wrote.

Although this survey may worry some married men, there is some good news in store for them.

One in three women also said they "doubt" anything is going to happen between her and the backup guy.
