WeChat rolled out the latest update to its iOS version of the app with a new feature called Sight that allows users to share Vine-like looping videos.

WeChat, the free cross-platform instant chat application owned by Tencent, has rolled out a new update for it iOS version of the app,Tuesday.

WeChat  has introduced a looping videos feature, Sight. Post update, WeChat users can record six-second looping videos on an iPhone and share it with other users via personal chat, Moments or via social networking sites, The Next Web reports.

Sight can be accessed by sliding down the chat screen. A new recording interface will appear and users can simply press the record button and start shooting. The tiny video is identical to Vine and appears like an animated GIF. When a Sight is shared with other users via personal message, it plays automatically. The new feature is an addition to the existing line of features that make WeChat a true competitor to giants like WhatsApp.

In August, WeChat reached a milestone of 42 million monthly active users in the second quarter of 2014, bringing the grand total to 438 million users. The figure included the number of users on both WeChat and Weixin, the Chinese version of the app, and is clearly nearing WhatsApp's 500 million active users.

According to a separate report by Tech In Asia, Weixin was updated with additional features including passbook storage for tickets, prepaid cards, store loyalty cards and more. The English version of the app lacks the new passbook-style storage. WeChat in Chinese language also upgraded security options with the ability to set a passcode, the report added.

WeChat update version 6.0 is only available for iOS users, as there is no information on when the new feature, specifically Sight, will arrive on Android. The app can be downloaded from App Store for free.
