A 17-year-old UK schoolgirl was in for a frightening surprise after she carried her breakfast to school - a banana with a nest of 80 spiders living inside of the fruit, the Mirror reported.

Hannah John, 17, decided to grab the banana as a healthy snack while leaving for school in the morning. It was only after she decided to peel and eat the fruit, when she spotted the spiders.

"I took a banana into school and was going to have it in the morning but I spotted something. There was a hole in it and inside there were around 80 tiny spiders," she said.

"I did let out a scream," she added. "It was horrible and I hate spiders."

Classmate Georgia Davies at Olchfa Comprehensive School in Swansea also got a chance to observe the terrifying discovery, according to TheBlaze.

"It was horrible - we had no idea what type of spider they were but they looked horrible," Davies told the Mirror. "It looked like it was just a bit of tissue paper but when you looked closer you could see lots of legs inside the hole. It was disgusting."

However, their biology teacher stepped in to examine the insects, assuring the pair that the spiders had long been dead. "Our form teacher is also a biology teacher and when she came over she knew exactly what it was," Davies said.

"My teacher told me to put it in the bin - but not the bin in her classroom," Hannah added.

The banana was apparently purchased by Hannah's father at a local supermarket near their home in Fforestfach, Swansea, according to the Mirror. "I was given the banana by my dad. When I told him he was a bit shocked but then he laughed."

Since a large amount of bananas are exported from Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Colombia, known to be home to some of the world's most venomous spiders, it is not surprising for a few supermarkets to end up with loaded bananas.
