Apple is reportedly preparing to introduce a new line of iMacs this fall that will feature ultra high-resolution Retina displays.

Sources familiar with the situation say the devices are in the late stages of testing, which opens up the possibility that they will be launched alongside the OS X Yosemite operating system, according to 9 to 5 Mac.

The Retina iMac is expected to have a chassis as thin as the one in the current model, as well as updated Wi-Fi antennae and faster processors.

Rumors about the new iMac lineup began in June 2012, when Apple first introduced the Retina MacBook Pro lineup, TechCrunch reported. The Cupertino, California-based company has since lowered its involvement in Retina desktops since then, likely due to the cost required to make high-resolution displays as big as the ones that iMacs need.

Apple is also expected to introduce the new iMacs the same way it introduced its Retina laptops, which is with pricier versions and models without the Retina display. Final Cut Pro and iMovie are also rumored to get updates that would provide these devices with support for high-resolution, 4K video footage.

OS X Yosemite is aimed for a launch in October, so Apple fans will have to wait a little while to see if the new iMacs will make their debut, 9 to 5 Mac reported.

The rumor comes as Apple continues to develop its 12-inch lineup for its Retina MacBooks, which are expected to be launched between later this year and early 2015. Another rumor claims that Apple will debut a 27-inch iMac with 5K display this year.
