Dominic Cooper will return to the Marvel fold as the young Howard Stark in the new ABC series "Agent Carter," according to Marvel.

The British actor made his debut as Tony Stark's father in "Captain America: The First Avenger" where he first teamed up with Hayley Atwell's Agent Peggy Carter. Stark supplied Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America with his costume and shield, made of the rare vibranium metal.

Cooper expressed his interest in returning to the role earlier this year before ABC officially picked up the prequel Marvel series.

"There's fun to be had with Stark," Cooper said in January. "There really is. With Howard Stark, there could be... that flawed inventor from the past. There's such great content to the character."

Agent Carter will have to balance her administrative duties at the Strategic Scientific Reserve (SSR) while running secret missions for Stark. Carter will receive some assistance from Stark's butler, played by James D'Arcy.

Atwell and her "Captain America" co-stars Kenneth Choi (as Jim Morita) and Neal McDonough (as Dum Dum Dugan) made a guest appearance in the second season premiere of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Working for the newly formed SSR, Carter and her men loaded up boxes of secret experiments conducted by Hydra during the war. The notorious organization reemerged at the end of last season on "S.H.I.E.L.D." to reclaim their property.

The setting for "Agent Carter" will occur after the first "Captain America" film but before the short film's action, which Cooper also starred in.

"Marvel's Agent Carter" will premiere in 2015.
