The creators of the anonymous posting app Secret have decided to come out with a new app called Ping, designed to provide notifications in a simple fashion.

The app is currently available for iOS and Android and provides a variety of categories for users to choose after tapping its black dot, which include Random Thoughts, Apps Worth Downloading, and "Is it Friday yet?," according to The Next Web. Users will also be able to see what's trending on Twitter.

Based on what you choose, Ping will deliver push notifications for items it believes you are interested in. Secret said this app has nothing to do with its main app and that they don't share any information with each other.

Other categories in the app include one for daily fortune cookies, one for pickup lines to try out, and another for movies that might be worth watching, PC Magazine reported.

Ben Lee, principal designer at Secret, wrote in a blog post that Secret came up with Ping during a weekend hackathon that was centered around simplicity.

"We were fascinated by the idea of an app that could tell you what you need to know, right when you need to know it. Why scavenge for content - it should come to you," he wrote.

Lee also discussed how users are able to navigate between Ping's two main screens, emphasizing the importance of the black dot, PC Magazine reported.

"The circle (or dot) is at the core of the spatial navigation. Instead of moving between screens by sliding or flipping or stacking, we thought it would be fun to move through portals. And if you pull open the portal slightly, you can peek into it. Lastly, we brought a simple list to life by phasing colors as you scroll it," Lee wrote.

Notifications are sent on occasion, and users aren't able to request one at the moment they want it, The Next Web reported. However, the simplicity of the app is its main attraction.

David Bytow, CEO of Secret, said that as you continue to use Ping, the app will "evolve and adapt to you."
