George Clooney is a bachelor no more. The 53-year-old actor married Amal Alamuddin in a private ceremony in Venice, Italy on Saturday, Sept. 27.

According to People magazine, the couple wed in front of family and close friends at the Aman Canal Grande luxury resort. Celebrity guests included Bono, Bill Murray and Matt Damon. Fans and onlookers cheered as several old-fashioned taxi water boats carried the guests to the wedding venue.

A source told People magazine that Clooney and Alamuddin were married by Walter Veltroni, the former mayor of Rome.

"George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin were married today in a private ceremony in Venice, Italy," the actor's rep told People.

According to E! News, Clooney and his 36-year-old bride are expected to remain in Italy for the remainder of the weekend to celebrate their nuptials. On Monday, the two will sign paperwork to make their union official.

The "Gravity" actor and Alamuddin had a whirlwind romance. The two started dating last October and got engaged in April. According to E!, he popped the question to Alamuddin with a 7-carat emerald-cut diamond ring set in platinum. The gorgeous diamond sparkler is said to have cost over $750.000.

Clooney and Alamuddin have kept their relationship pretty low-key but earlier this month while accepting the Andrea Bocelli Humanitarian Award, the actor gushed about his bride-to-be and told the audience how excited he was to marry her.

"I met my lovely bride-to-be here in Italy, who I will be marrying in a couple of weeks in Venice, of all places," he said, according to E!. "Amal, I love you to death and I cannot wait to be your husband."

This is the second marriage for Clooney, who was previously wed to "Mad Men" star Talia Balsam from 1989 to 1993.
