Kellie Pickler will play the lead role in the latest animated "Veggie Tales" movie. She'll be the voice of Mirabelle, a singing sweet potato.

The country star and former "American Idol" and "Dancing With the Stars" contestant will sing eight original songs for "Beauty and the Beet," according to USA Today. In her role, Pickler plays Mirabelle who is a member of a family band, reports radio.com. Conflict ensues when the family car breaks down on the way to their biggest show and they wind up at a nearby mountain resort.

In a new clip of the film, Pickler sings "Who God Wants Me to Be" from the film, singing about nasty resort owner Finnegan J. Beet and her life motto: "Kill 'em with kindness."

In an interview with USA Today, Pickler said that the film's main character reminded her of her own grandmother.

"She was a little spitfire and so is Mirabelle," Pickler said of her character. "She has such a beautiful and forgiving heart where she will let things go. With the Beet, he has been hurt, and sometimes hurt people hurt people. Regardless of how rude or mean Mr. Beet was, Mirabelle has this patience and grace for him. She tries to understand."

She added: "She ends up saying, 'The way you're acting is not right. You're being a bully.' But everyone has a story, everyone comes from somewhere and everyone's been hurt."

The songstress reveals that her new role has made her a hit with her young family members.

"All my nieces and nephews grew up with "Veggie Tales,'" she explains, "and when they heard I was going to be in a 'Veggie Tales" movie, I immediately became the coolest aunt in the world!"

The film will be available on DVD and digital download on Oct. 14.

A "Beauty and the Beet" companion CD, featuring 10 brand-new songs - including an all-veggie rendition of the classic Christmas carol "Deck the Halls" - will also be available in stores and on iTunes to coincide with the release of the movie.
