Jason Derulo is setting the record straight on what caused his split with girlfriend of three years Jordin Sparks.

"I spent three great years with Jordin and she is one of the most amazing people that I have ever met," the 25-year-old singer shared with Us Weekly. "But as in all relationships there are ups and downs and at this time we have decided to amicably part."

"Infidelity, cheating or deceit played no part in our relationship or our break-up, and I hope that people respect our privacy as we move forward with our lives. Though I think it is a private matter and intended to keep my break-up Jordin personal, due to bogus and irresponsible lies being reported by insensitive media outlets it became necessary for me to comment," he added.

During an interview with Minnesota's KDWB-FM Thursday, Derulo did not comment on the status of his relationship, however he ultimately said, "Everything is cool...It's not a bad situation. You know, it's not one of those kinda things."

Us Weekly confirmed that the couple had amicably parted ways but remain friends. Derulo and Sparks were romantically linked since 2011, publicly confirmed their relationship in January 2012.

"They are both upset. It just wasn't working out," a source said. "It was a lot of travel and hard to work with their schedules."

Sparks took to Twitter on Friday to share an inspirational message which read, "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."
