Cadillac revealed that its upcoming high-end flagship sedan slated for a launch next year will be called  CT6.

General Motors' Cadillac brand is introducing an all-new luxury sedan that will be the car maker's flagship model in late-2015. After revealing brief details about the upcoming model last week, Cadillac has finally named  its high-end premium sedan CT6. The Cadillac CT6 will feature new technology and a complete makeover so it can compete against the latest top-range luxury sedans in the market.

The Cadillac CT6 will not replace any of the existing models but will be placed above the company's CTS and XTS product lines. The change in the naming style suggests a shift toward simplified monikers for the future models with the CT lettering followed by numeric marking to indicate different models in the hierarchy.

Speaking about the new CT6 sedan,  company's executive chief engineer Travis Hester said the new model "will be the lightest and most agile car in the class of top-level large luxury sedans."

"Using the lessons learned from our dynamic ATS and CTS product lines, we have developed an entirely new vehicle architecture for the CT6," Hester said in an official press statement, Wednesday. "It will employ a mixed material philosophy that combines the best and most efficient components optimized for each area of this new top-of-the-range car."

The Cadillac CT6 is expected to compete against the popular luxury sedans like Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8, BMW 7 Series and Lexus LS. The CT6 will be assembled in GM's Detroit-Hamtramck plant where the car maker has invested $384 million. Besides the rear wheel drive-orientation, the CT6 will sport unique features like Super Cruise or automated driving technology with hands-off lane following, and braking and speed accelerating in different driving conditions.

Cadillac is hoping the upcoming sedan turns around the company's losses. GM's luxury car brand has failed to gain a stronghold in the market  amid competition from Audi, Inifiniti and BMW. Cadillac dipped 18 percent in sales last month, most of which came from the company's CTS sedan.
