Apple apologized to millions of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus owners after the first iOS 8 update killed the cell phone reception along with the Touch ID scanner.

Apple was forced to pull off the first iOS 8 update Wednesday after receiving numerous complaints of interrupted cellular reception and malfunctioning Touch ID sensor. Apple was prompt in apologizing to its newly upgraded owners of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, as the issue was reported only on the latest flagships, Financial Times reports.

Several users took the issue to Apple's online forums and to social media sites like Twitter to report the errors. The cellular network was disabled with a "No Service" message post the software update. The iOS 8.0.1 update also affected the Touch ID sensor, which failed to recognize the registered fingerprint used to unlock the device. The issue was widespread and subscribers on all major carriers including AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sprint in the United States, Rogers in Canada, EE in the United Kingdom and Vodafone subscribers in Germany reported similar problems.

The software update iOS 8.0.1 was intended to fix several bugs that were widely reported by its users, such as the one in Apple's HealthKit app last week. The update was also expected to address the issues of third party keyboards, some apps failing to access photos from Photo Library, reliability of the Reachability feature, unexpected data usage while receiving SMS and MMS messages and some issues with iCloud backups and more, according to the changelog by The Verge.

"We apologize for the great inconvenience experienced by users, and are working around the clock to prepare iOS 8.0.2 with a fix for the issue, and will release it as soon as it is ready in the next few days," an Apple spokesperson told Engadget and suggested affected users reinstall the iOS 8 update from iTunes as a temporary fix for the problems.

The latest report comes amid complaints of some early iPhone 6 Plus bending after long hours in pant pockets. Series of early hiccups put a question mark on Apple's successful launch of the new iPhones, which sold a record 10 million units in their opening weekend sale.

The adoption of the iOS 8 has also been on a fast track with 46 percent of iDevices already running Apple's latest software. It is unclear how long will Apple take before the iOS 8.0.2 arrives but a promise in the next few days means it will come shortly.
