Demi Lovato is breaking tradition and having a non-musical act open for her during her during her world tour.

Instead, she is having motivational speaker Spencer West talk to her fans.

The pop star met Spencer - who lost both of his legs at 5-years-old - while working with the Free The Children charity in West Africa.

The friends ran into each other for a second time in Africa, which is when Lovato asked him to come on tour with her.

"After I spent some time around him and realized what an amazing person he is and how incredible he is at speaking I decided to bring him on tour," Lovato explains in a video she posted on her Facebook page.

West, 31, will be inspiring fans throughout the world from his stories. Doctors told his parents "he would never do much with his life," according to an interview he did with Huffington Post in 2012.

Since then he became a motivational speaker, author, participatant in charities such as Free The People where he met Lovato, and he even climbed Mount Kilimanjaro ... on his hands!

"I am so excited to be on the Demi World Tour," West says in the Facebook video. "I had the opportunity to host demi last summer in East Africa and got to know her not only as a musician but as a person."

Lovato and West began the Demi World Tour yesterday in Texas and will be touring the U.S. until mid-October before heading over to Europe.
