Rumors continue for Samsung's upcoming smartwatch, with the latest claiming that the device will be able to process mobile payments.

The payment processing platform for the smartwatch will reportedly be created by PayPal, according to 9 to 5 Google. An unnamed Samsung representative said that a fingerprint scanner will also be included in the device.

The South Korean electronics maker has yet to make an official announcement about the watch.

"We are currently developing the smartwatch equipped with fingerprint identification technology and relevant solutions through cooperation with PayPal, the world's most renowned financial transaction service company, as well as Synaptics, a global company specialized in biometric verification," the representative said.

The unnamed source added that the smartwatch will be released by early 2015 at the earliest, Mobile Burn reported.

The launch would follow Samsung's recent release of its Gear S smartwatch, which can make and receive calls, messages, and emails.

The rumor opens up the possibility for Samsung to release its new smartwatch at next year's Mobile World Congress, Android Headlines reported. The event is where the company introduced its lineup of Gear 2 devices this past February.
