How much would you spend to save a goldfish?

George, a 10-year-old goldfish who lives with his owner in Australia, underwent high-risk brain surgery to remove a tumor that cost $200, Fox News reported.

Dr. Tristan Rich operated on the fish at Lort Smith Animal Hospital.

Rich has performed similar surgeries on goldfish before, helping some to reach 30 years old, he explained to Business Insider. George's successful surgery should give him 20 more years to live.

The owner had a close relationship with George and couldn't picture putting down her friend. The surgery was risky, but the goldfish pulled through.

Rich operated on George by using three buckets of water filled with different levels of anesthetics that knocked him out for 30 minutes, according to Business Insider.

Though the fish was asleep, it moved around a lot during surgery, which was a challenge for Rich. He explained that in order for the tiny fish to refrain from bleeding to death, it could not lose more than half a milliliter of blood.
