A Colorado woman was so annoyed by a child practicing his clarinet outside her home that she threatened him with a rifle, according to a Mesa County arrest affidavit obtained by The Smoking Gun.

Cheryl Ann Pifer, of Grand Junction, was arrested Wednesday after aiming her 7mm Mauser at the 11-year-old boy who was practicing the clarinet for homework. She was charged with menacing, child abuse and prohibited use of a weapon.

The incident occurred when the child was playing the instrument with several children in a backyard near the 60-year-old woman's home. Pifer, who was allegedly drunk, stormed out her house, aimed her rifle at the child and shouted, "Get your ass back inside," reads the affidavit.

The boy said he could not practice inside "because the baby was sleeping," Mesa County sheriffs said in the report.

Standing in her doorway, the woman continued to aim her weapon at the kids, at one point yelling, " 'Fire in the hole,' " the 11-year-old told police.

Deputies arrived at the scene, but Pifer was apparently unfazed by the threat of arrest because she said, "Oh, you're here to arrest me," according to The Smoking Gun.

She later told deputies the boy was a "nuisance" who "wouldn't stop so she just wanted to stop him."

A gun was found inside her front door. It was "unloaded but had two rounds in the magazine," police said in their report.

The gun-toting woman was released on $5,000 personal recognizance bond after her booking at the Mesa County jail. Pifer is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 19.
