Tim Tebow is putting down the football and picking up a microphone.

ABC News announced Thursday that the former NFL quarterback is joining "Good Morning America" as a contributor, beginning Monday, September 15. Tebow's last appearance on the morning show was on January 31 as a guest host.

Tebow, who is the first-ever college sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy, will help the morning show launch its "Motivate Me Monday" series, a segment featuring "individuals and their amazing stories of triumph." He will be reporting from both the "GMA" studio in New York City and several various locations across the country.

Tebow will be working alongside original anchors Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Ginger Zee and Lara Spencer. He will also work alongside "Live! With Kelly and Michael" co-host and former New York Giants star Michael Strahan, who is also a part-time "GMA" contributor.

In addition to his new role, Tebow signed a multi-year broadcasting deal with ESPN, which included covering college football as a SEC Network expert.

"I am so excited that ESPN has given me this incredible opportunity," Tebow tweeted at the time of his promotion. "When I was six years old I fell in love with the game of football and while I continue to pursue my dream of playing quarterback in the NFL, this is an amazing opportunity to be a part of the unparalleled passion of college football and the SEC."

Tebow has attracted media attention for his outspoken conservative Christian beliefs. During games, the athlete could be seen quoting scripture verse in his eye black. He has also declared to remain a virgin until marriage and appeared in the 2010 Super Bowl anti-abortion ad.
