“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1” has finally released the first image of Jennifer Lawrence as Rebel Leader Katniss Everdeen.

Katniss, who is now dubbed the Mockingjay, is the symbol of the rebellion in Panem. Any association with the rebellion could cost a citizen their life, and President Snow has attempted to instill fear in the Capitol to keep people on his side.

However, the Mockingjay symbol has continued to spread and the citizens of Panem are aware Katniss is alive and is leading the rebels in District 13.

It’s a dark time for Katniss in the third installment of “The Hunger Games” franchise.
Back in May, actress Julianne Moore explained in a behind-the-scenes interview how terrifying it is to live in the rebel district.

"District 13 really looks like a bomb shelter and that's what it is,” Moore said. “It's all been built hundreds of feet underground, so it can withstand any kind of attack and detection.

“Basically, the Capitol believes they've destroyed this district that everyone is dead. But these people have managed to...take out what little they had and bring it down there and not exactly prosper. They barely have enough to eat.”

The Panem citizens in “Mockingjay” are described as frail and thin, as they are living off rations and are barely getting by. The District 13 citizens are forced to stay hidden out of fear the Capitol would attack if they exposed themselves.

Katniss is now faced with the responsibility of leading her people into freedom, while trying to keep her loved ones safe. Katniss doesn’t necessarily want the responsibility, but knows she must act quickly if she wants to save Peeta from the Capitol.

“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1” will be released to theaters on Nov. 21.
