Google is well-known for the development of its own platform, but the web giant is not turning a blind eye toward its own apps on other platforms. Google has rolled out a major update to its iOS version of Google Play Movies & TV app to include a useful downloading feature. This helps users to watch movies and TV shows anytime, anywhere even without an internet connection.

Google confirmed the update in an official Google+ post on Monday. "Rejoice- offline movie playback for iOS has arrived! With Google Play's updated iOS Play Movies & TV app, you can download movies and TV shows then take them with you wherever you go, no Internet connection required," the post reads.

In addition to the offline viewing, the update also brings other enhancements and bug fixes for a greater experience.

The addition is certainly a huge welcome for those who like to explore their options. Until this update, iPhone and iPad users were required to have a reliable Wi-Fi connection in order to stream videos on the smartphone or on a smart TV via Chromecast. Being able to download videos gives access to movies when there is no internet connection, App Advice reports. The feature has been available on the Android version of the app for quite some time, but now both apps are in line with identical features.

The Mountain View, Calif.-based tech company has frequently updated its apps on Android and other platforms. Google Play Music on iOS received a new feature that allows users to delete music from their playlist as a part of the update. The company's Play Books has been dormant for several months without any updates since December last year, the report added.

The updated Google Play Movies & TV for iPhones and iPads version 1.2.0 can be found on iTunes Store.
