Being a mother has been an incredible experience for Hilary Duff, but the singer has to admit that motherhood is not as easy as they said it would be.

"It's hard having a baby and having paparazzi follow you all around all the time," the 25-year old told omg! Insider"I haven't had to explain it to my son yet, what's going on. For the most part they respect me and they respect my space, but it's tough to always be photographed."

Duff, who is married to hockey player Mike Comrie, finds herself at a "fun stage right now" when it comes to her son.

"My son is 13 months, so we just celebrated his first birthday," she said. "He's running around everywhere. He knows what he wants and what he doesn't like and really has a personality now."

Despite the fun of raising a child, she admits it can get tough sometimes.

"It's kind of a heaviness at first, when to admit you just need to get away for a second, that's one thing I learned that is OK."

Duff recently appeared on "Two and a Half Men" as a love interest for Ashton Kutcher's character.

Duff still hopes to return to the studio soon and record another album. She has not released an album since "Dignity" in 2007.

"I want to work on my music, but it's tough to be pulled away from Luca," Duff said. "Whatever I work on, I want it to be worth missing time with him."
