Sony is expanding its presence in the smartphone space with its all-new Xperia Z3 flagship with improved camera, battery and special incentives for PS4 gamers.

Sony hasn't been as successful in the mobile industry as it has been in the gaming arena. The Japanese multinational conglomerate plans on changing that with its new Xperia Z3 smartphone. Sony is building on its strengths to target audiences based on their specific needs. The new flagship smartphone was unveiled during the IFA 2014 event in Berlin on Wednesday.

Sony has focused on the main pain-points of smartphone users while building its Xperia Z3. One of the major setbacks of using a high-end smartphone is draining batteries. Sony's new Z3 flagship comes with an improved battery that can run two days on a single charge. The smartphone also packs other proprietary features like an aluminum build and waterproof certification.

Sony has enjoyed a fruitful response to its PlayStation 4, which outsold Xbox One by several million units. The new Xperia Z3 phone is the first smartphone to feature access to PS4 Remote Play 2, which allows PS4 owners to remotely control their consoles in absence of a connected TV access.

The Xperia Z3 was launched alongside Z3 Compact, a smaller version of the flagship but packed with similar features. According to Sony, the Z3 Compact also features PS4 Remote Play access among other premium features found on Xperia Z3. The company also says the two new smartphones can be used as second screens to remotely watch friends' game play, chat with PSN friends and buy and download PS4 games.

The smartphones offer immersive gaming experience, as they can be connected with a Dual Shock 4 wireless controller using home Wi-Fi and GCM10 Game Control Mount.

In addition to the new features in Z3 and Z3 Compact, Sony has added high-end features to both smartphones. Powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, both phones get two days battery life and a special boost with STAMINA mode, which shuts down background functions to extend smartphone run-time.

"Consumers demand and deserve greatness from their smartphone - in design, camera and battery life. That's precisely what we aim to deliver with Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact, at the same time as delivering leading innovations such as unique Sony camera experiences and, for the first time, PS4 Remote Play in two beautifully designed, fully waterproof smartphones,"  Kunimasa Suzuki, Sony's CEO and president, said in an official press release, Wednesday.

The Xperia Z3 features a slim 7.3mm round edged aluminum frame while the Z3 Compact is slightly thicker at 8.6mm. Another difference between the two phones is the display size and resolution. The Z3 packs a 5.2-inch Full HF display and a 4.6-inch 720p display embraces the Z3 Compact.

The camera capabilities are packed with extreme features using ISO12800 sensitivity to capture more detail even in low light. The 25mm wide-angle Sony G Lens makes it easy to capture a fuller screen. Several camera apps like Face in, AR Fun, Movie creator, Multi-camera and Sound Photo enhance the photography experience in both phones.

Sony is making it easier for other Android smartphone and iPhone users to make a switch with Xperia Transfer Mobile app. This seamlessly moves contacts, photos, bookmarks, apps, music and messages from one device to another.

Pricing and availability details are yet to be announced.
