Farewell, Piers Morgan! The outspoken and controversial British anchor revealed on Twitter that he has decided not to sign a new two-year contract offered by CNN.

BREAKING NEWS: I am no longer a @CNN employee," the 49-year-old wrote on Twitter to his four million followers.

In a series of Tweets, Morgan added, "I was offered a new 2-year deal by @CNN boss Jeff Zucker to host 40 big interview 'specials.' But after considerable thought, I decided not to accept it - and to try pastures new. I had a fantastic time in my 4 years @CNN and have huge respect for Jeff & all the people who work there. Great company, great network."

The former "Piers Morgan Tonight" host, who has been open about his opinions on the need to enforce stricter gun laws, ended his announcement by insisting that his still has plans to go after the National Riffle Association (NRA)

"I wouldn't crack the champagne open too quickly thought, @NRAM," he wrote. "I haven't finished with you lot yet. If I'm to be remembered for anything at @CNN-I'd like it to be this."

He ended the message with a link to an interview he conducted about gun control.

Morgan, whose resume includes being a judge on "America's Got Talent," took over for Larry King with "Piers Morgan Tonight." The show was cancelled in March due to low ratings.

In an interview with the New York Times, Morgan said, "I'd like to do work - interviews with big celebrities and powerful people - that is better suited to what I do well and fit with what [CNN president] Jeff [Zucker] is trying to do with the network."
