Microsoft has confirmed that it is in the process of lifting the 2GB file size limit on OneDrive after some users reported the change on Reddit.

Microsoft, the renowned software giant, is making a commendable move for its OneDrive customers by lifting the 2GB file size upload limit. The transition is still in its early stages and is being rolled out to a small number of users but the Redmond-based software company confirmed that it is "removing" the upper limit for OneDrive uploads. It is unclear if the company will set a new limit or uncap it completely but more details will follow in the near future.

The change was originally reported on Reddit by user megaman821, which several other users confirmed. Microsoft Group Program Manager Omar Shahine jumped into the ongoing thread on Reddit to confirm the change. "It's not arbitrary," Shahine wrote. "It's simply an old limit that we've been working on removing for far too long now. The good news is that we are actively working on this."

According to The Next Web, the use of term "removing" instead of "increasing" implies that OneDrive users will be able to upload files of any size. Microsoft declined to share any information related to the new limit on file size but issued the following statement to TNW and Beta News.

"As we mentioned on our uservoice, we have started the work to increase the file size limit for all OneDrive accounts," a company spokesperson said. "We have started the process with a small number of customers and will continue to roll it out to our full customer base. We will have more to share on this update in the near future, stay tuned to the OneDrive blog."

The new move follows a major change for OneDrive in June. The company doubled the storage capacity on its cloud storage service and reduced the monthly subscription prices by over 70 percent. The basic paid subscription starts from $1.99 a month for 100GB storage and goes up to $3.99 for 200GB.

It is possible most users may not be able to see the change as only a small number of accounts appear to have bumped up the limit. Taking Microsoft's word for it, the change will hopefully embrace all other OneDrive accounts.
