A Spanish teenager was electrocuted to death after he urinated on a lamppost as a summer festival was in full swing, according to local reports.

The 18-year-old was partying at a music festival on the Spanish island of Mallorca early Saturday morning when he stopped by a lamppost to relieve himself, The Local reported.

As he leaned against the lamppost, investigators suspect the urine acted as a conductor that allowed electricity to travel from the post to his body. The teen was electrocuted, fell to the ground from the shock and hit his head, a Spanish newspaper reported according to The Local.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene in the town of Bunyola at around 1 a.m. They spent more than 30 minutes trying to revive the victim but were unsuccessful, the Irish Independent reported.  The victim's name has not been released.

His death occurred during the yearly 'fiestas,' a celebration with live music and DJs in Bunyola, a town of 6,000 people.

The lamppost involved turned out to have faulty wiring.

All celebrations were canceled following the tragedy and police are investigating his death. Police are also checking other lampposts in the area to see if they are malfunctioning.

Other electrocution deaths have been attributed to faulty wiring. In April, a 7-year-old Florida boy died in a hospital after he was electrocuted in his family's swimming pool. The family suspects a broken pool light caused the electricity to be diverted to the pool.
