India is the cheapest place to fly in the world, according to a recent global survey, and the prices are so low that it's actually cheaper than taking a train.

GoEuro, a Berlin-based travel website, conducted a global transportation survey and found India airfare is the cheapest in the world due to their competitive market, reports India Today.

For a 62-mile flight, it costs about $10.20. This is half the cost of the same flight in China and only one-thirteenth the cost in Finland, the most expensive country to fly in, according to India Today.

A separate informal survey by India Real Time found that airfare is so cheap in India that if someone frequents the first-class section on a train, it would be cheaper and quicker to fly to the same destination if the traveler booked the flight two months in advance, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Most airlines in India are losing money because less people are traveling by plane due to the country's difficult economy. This is prompting the airlines to sell seats at a price lower than it costs to operate the plane, reports India Today.
