Warner Bros. might be attempting to keep the laughs out of the “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” production.

HitFix reports sources claim Warner Bros. wants to establish a larger, more serious universe for their films. However, the rumor caused many red flags to go off in the reporter’s mind, claiming the tip could be nothing more than a gimmick to get attention.

“Here's why I have trouble believing any studio would do that,” HitFix reports. “Even in the most serious of mainstream movies, some of the most memorable moments are those points where they let off steam, where a laugh is used to punctuate. In adventure movies especially, a laugh can make the difference between a movie people like and a movie people love.”

Warner Bros. hasn’t commented on their “no jokes” policy or what exactly the rumored strategy entails, but the film company is attempting to revamp their DC franchises.

The upcoming “Batman vs. Superman” movie will introduce a plethora of new characters into the DC Film Universe, including a new Wonder Woman, Cyborg, a rumored Aquaman and more.

However, many fans are questioning whether the upcoming DC films will live up to the legacy left behind by Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” trilogy.

Some DC fans don’t care for the casting in Zack Snyder’s “Batman vs. Superman,” especially adding Ben Affleck as the franchise’s new Caped Crusader. Affleck recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the casting backlash.

“Before I took the role, Warner Bros. gave me a bunch of past reactions to casting and said, ‘Are you sure you want to get into this? This is part and parcel of these movies now. There’s a lot of active fans with a lot of opinions,’” Affleck said. “To me, having been through a certain amount of that, it doesn’t really… Everyone’s entitled to their opinion.”

“Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” will hit theaters on March 25, 2016
