Army officials were on lockdown this morning at a Virginia base because an active shooter was loose.

Personnel were told to activate active shooter protocols at the Fort Lee base, according to The Associated Press.

"All that we know is that it's at the [Combined Arms Support Command] headquarters. The installation has been locked down. We've all been asked to stay inside our offices," Ft. Lee spokesperson Amy Perry told Business Insider this morning.

Fort Lee has an average daily population of 34,000, making it the third largest army training facility, according to the base's website.

The base was on lockdown for under an hour. U.S. Army Fort Lee confirmed that the lockdown was lifted on their Facebook page.

No further details were released.
