LG is all set to take the center stage at the IFA 2014 next week with a new round-faced G Watch R.

LG, the renowned electronics company, is all set to steal some of the hype surrounding Motorola's  Moto 360 smartwatch. In a latest demo video on YouTube, LG shows the successor of the G watch with a revamped circular design. The details on the upcoming LG smartwatch are a bit hazy but the launch is set for IFA 2014 in Berlin next week.

The new LG smartwatch is called G Watch R, assuming the R stands for round, and takes major design cues from Moto 360. The 30-second teaser trailer released via LG Mobile Global's YouTube account talks mainly about the circular design of the watch. Only glimpses of different watch faces are shown in the video, which are shown in a gallery form here at imgur.

Based on these images, we can conclude that the round-faced design features a thin bezel all around and a button on the side. According to a report by Engadget, which was the first to get its hands on the video before it was publically released, the video showed glimpses of digital step counter, distance meter and a compass.

LG's new smartwatch design is a perfect circle and the teaser uses a catchy "fill the gap" phrase to take a swing at Moto 360's black bar at the bottom of its display. Motorola's smartwatch is set to debut at a special event held in Chicago on September 4 with a $250 price tag. LG will soon follow the release with its G Watch R launch at the IFA 2014, which is expected to begin September 5 through 10.

Like the other smartwatches, LG's new entry will also be powered by Google's latest Android Wear platform. The addition strengthens Google's presence in the niche category. Companies like Samsung and Pebble have established a prominent place in the wearables sector. More companies are expected to join the bandwagon.  ASUS is expected to launch its own smartwatch at the IFA and HTC has plans to unveil its new gadget later this year. Samsung, which has the maximum range of wearables in its Gear series, is also likely to launch at least one or more entries this year. Apple and Microsoft are also eyeing the category for quite some time and are expected to take the competition to the next level with their entries.
