Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey secretly married after dating for only six weeks. It took them a few months longer to publicly admit their six year marriage was over.

Cannon confirmed his separation with Carey after weeks of speculation about the couple's relationship status.

"There is trouble in paradise," he told The Insider With Yahoo on Thursday. "We have been living in separate houses for a few months."

The American's Got Talent host added, "My main focus is my kids." He and Carey have 3-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe, who they refer to as "dem babies."

The couple put their $13 billion Bel Air mansion up for sale in July. Cannon had been staying at his grandparents' house after he moved out, according to Page Six. "He's been living out of hotels. They're fighting a lot," a music insider told Page Six.

Cheating may or may not have been the cause of the couple's split. Carey suspected her husband of cheating and ordered a security guard to watch him while he hosted parties in Las Vegas earlier this year.

"The security guard wasn't there to keep the girls away from him," another source told Page Six. "It was to keep him away from the girls."

Others close to the couple don't believe cheating was the source of the couple's demise.

"Nick completely adored Mariah, he would never cheat on her," an insider told MediaTakeOut.com.

The couple appeared in their last photo together on Father's Day in a picture posted to Carey's Instagram account. Cannon tried to downplay the rumors in May.

"You kind of have to ignore it because every week it's something different, and if you paid attention to it, it actually probably would start really affecting you," he told Parade. "There's no merit or truth to it. It's kind of humorous, really. It couldn't be further off from the truth, and it really affects the credibility of the so-called newspapers."

The divorce may already be "a done deal," pending the property settlement and custody agreement, according to TMZ.
