Sony launched the all-new Xperia M2 Aqua in the mid-range price-point with some high-end features

Sony, the renowned electronics brand, has launched a new smartphone that takes cues from the company's flagship smartphone. The Sony Xperia M2 Aqua is the company's first mid-range smartphone to feature Sony's popular waterproof technology, which has been exclusive to high-end smartphones in the Z series. In fact, the Japanese tech giant said the M2 Aqua offers the highest waterproof rating of IP65/68 in a smartphone.

The Sony Xperia M2 Aqua sports additional features that add value to the mid-range price-point. Powered by a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 1.2GHz quad-core processor and 1GB RAM, the M2 Aqua ensures speed and performance. It features a 4.8-inch qHD display with a resolution of 540x960 pixels and the company's flagship design with tempered glass, aluminum power key and matte ceramic back cover.

"Xperia M2 Aqua is a significant milestone in our product portfolio as we bring yet another of our signature technologies to a new category of smartphones," Calum MacDougall, Director of Xperia Marketing at Sony Mobile, said in a press statement, Tuesday. "The popularity of Xperia M2 showed us that there was a huge demand for premium Sony features at an affordable price-point. Following consumer feedback, we've now taken this a step further by bringing our waterproof expertise to a mid-range smartphone for the first time with Xperia M2 Aqua."

The launch of M2 Aqua shows how Sony wants to use its strengths to turn the company's sales. By using waterproof technology as a selling point, Sony also brings focus to the camera in the M2. Sony has clearly mastered the art of camera technology in its smartphones as well and is using that to create an edge over its rivals. The M2 Aqua sports 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, complete with Xperia camera apps like Social Live, Picture effect, AR effect, Burst shots. It also supports new Xperia camera apps developed by third parties like the Vine and Motiongraph.

Sony packs 2330mAh power battery in the M2 Aqua smartphone and features Battery STAMINA Mode to keep the smartphone running for longer hours. The smartphone also supports pairing with SmartBand SWR10 to keep a track of wearer's health and fitness at all times. Sony did not reveal the pricing details but is expected to hit the market in Latin America, Asia Pacific and Europe later this year.
