Following the worst season of his illustrious career, Tiger Woods has announced he will be taking time off from golf to work on getting back to where he once was physically.

Woods appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon Monday night with Rory McIlroy as the two enjoyed the spotlight on late night television. The two are also traveling to promote a new line of Nike weighted clubs. While Rory McIlroy is enjoying the ride of a lifetime, Tiger Woods has hit a low, but he's determined to rebound.

The 14-time major winner reaffirmed he would be taking time off from golf to work on his body. On August 13 Woods announced he would be withdrawing him name from consideration for the US Ryder Cup team after the worst PGA season of his career. For Tiger, the year began with back surgery to treat a pinched nerve and was then followed by a number of poor performances that culminated in the golfer's career-low for earnings in a season ($122,272).

"It's probably going to be a month or two," said Woods of his decision to take time off, in this ESPN article. "I just need to get strong. It's one of the things that when I took that fall at Firestone No. 2, I hadn't done any agility work, so that's part of the deal."

Woods also mentioned last week that he plans on returning to PGA competition in December during his World Challenge tournament in Florida. He hopes to get back into shape while he cheers on the US Ryder Cup team led by captain Tom Watson in September. Although he wishes he could be participating in this year's event, Woods acknowledged he wasn't playing up to his potential and knew he would be hurting the team if he were selected.

"I've got to be physically fit when I come back so I'll be explosive again and stable," he told Sky Sports.
