“Assassin’s Creed: Unity” made an appearance at Gamescom 2014, showcasing the freedom players will have to explore France.

IGN was able to preview the title at the gaming conference. One major change coming to the next-gen exclusive game is a revamp of the typical tailing missions. There are ways to get around having to follow your target, but it won’t make the job any easier.

“Mercifully there’s no mission fail in Unity if you fall too far behind or lose sight of your target,” IGN reports. “Instead, you could perhaps climb to an elevated point to see if you can locate them again, or simply abandon the tail entirely and pursue an alternative such as hunting down the thief with the key, or even just head to the cathedral and see if there's a back door or some other way to sneak in.

“If you’re the impulsive type, you might even assassinate the person you’re meant to be tailing before they have a chance to reveal any important information, and with the odd exception you still won’t fail the mission - you’ll just make it harder.”

The goal of “Assassin’s Creed: Unity” is to provide gamers with a seamless multiplayer experience. Players will be given the option to customize their character before starting a mission with the clothing and weapons of their choice. You can mix and match the weapons and armor with your gameplay style: Deadly, Unseen, Agile and Resilient.

According to IGN, different gear will affect your performance and influence your ability to pull off an assassination. When working in large crowds, Deadly and Resilient gear might be the better option. However, gamers might want to more Agile and Resilient elements to get around unnoticed.

Gamers can also expect perks from the more than 200 clothing options in the title; some items will increase your Eagle Vision range, others can help your stealth abilities, etc. Paris is your playground, but it’s best if you study your surroundings as freedom comes with a price.

“Assassin’s Creed: Unity” will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on Oct. 28. Read more about IGN's preview at Gamescom 2014 here.
