George R.R. Martin’s “Winds of Winter” won’t include more gay sex scenes unless the author feels it’s necessary to advance the storyline.

Martin recently spoke at the Edinburgh International Literary Festival about the scenes added to “Game of Thrones” that were not found in the novels. Martin explained the show has the luxury of adding scenes for characters that don’t have point-of-view chapters in the novels, according to The Telegrah.

"I put gay characters in the books, but they're not the viewpoint characters so I did not have any explicit gay sex scenes in the early books," Martin said. "[Since the TV show] I've had letters from fans who want me to present particular explicit male sex scenes. Most of these letters come from women.

"I don't pretend to understand this, I just read my email. I'm not going to do it just for the sake of doing it. If the plot lends itself to that, if one of my viewpoint characters is in a situation, I'm not going to shy away from it.”

However, the author remained firm about having complete control of his story. Martin told the festival crowd his writing process isn’t a “democracy” where people can chime in with ideas as they please.

According to The Telegraph, the author’s planned a “broad” storyline, but isn’t firm on the fate of his characters. Martin is unsure which major characters will make it to the end of “A Song of Fire and Ice” saga.

"I don't necessarily know their future and whether they will live or die," Martin said. "I'll make that up as I go along."

Martin’s sixth installment, “Winds of Winter,” does not have a set release date.
