Rock n' Roll legend Tom Petty has finally received his first number one album, a defining achievement in his 38-year career.

The album, called "Hypnotic Eye," took the top spot of the Billboard 200 this week, making the best debut in sales and charts for Petty and the Heartbreakers with 131,000 copy sales, according to Forbes. The album is also responsible for their best sales week in decades.

The band first debuted back in 1976 with an album featuring "Breakdown" and "American Girl," two of the band's most popular songs.

Petty and the Heartbreakers have sold more than 80 million albums around the world, and have received 17 Grammy Award nominations. The singer/songwriter also has eleven charted Top 10 albums under his belt, having reached as high as the number two spot on two occasions, which include his most recent album Mojo from 2010, Forbes reported.

The success in the first week in the new album's sales number is mostly due to those who took advantage of a special promotion from Petty and the band, in which those who bought a ticket to their current tour could also get a copy of "Hypnotic Eye."

Petty's new album takes the top spot in this week's Top 10 in debut albums, followed by Eric Clapton's "The Breeze: An Appreciation of JJ Cale" at number two, RollingStone.com reported. The list also includes the "Guardians of the Galaxy" soundtrack, Theory of a Deadman's "Savages," and 5 Seconds of Summer's self-titled album.

The Breeze features artists coming together as a tribute to JJ Cale, who passed away last summer, Forbes reported. Clapton, who worked closely with JJ Cale, will join Petty, John Mayer, Willie Nelson and other artists to pay homage to the rock legend.
