Vizio issued a safety recall for 245,000 units of its flat screen LEDs due to defective stand assembly that increases the risk of tipping over.

Vizio, the maker of affordable flat screen television sets, announced a voluntary recall of thousands of its E-series televisions due to risk of tipping over and causing injuries. The recall affects 245,000 units of Vizio E-series 39- and 42-inch Full-Array LED flat panel televisions sold between December 2013 and June. Owners of Vizio LED TVs can identify the affected models by locating the company's logo and model number at the lower right hand corner of the front panel.

According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, a manufacturing defect in the stand assembly can cause the TV to tip over unexpectedly. The commission also noted the model numbers affected by the recall that include E390-B0 and E390i-B0 for the 39-inch TVs and E420i-B0 for the 42-inch models. Owners of Vizio TVs with the affected model numbers can also verify if the serial numbers listed on the back of the on TV panel match with the ones posted on the Consumer Product Safety Commission's official website.

The risk of TVs tipping over can be dangerous in homes with children. The company, however, did not receive any reports of injuries out of the 51 reported incidents.

Owners of affected Vizio TVs who have wall-mounted their flat screens are at no risk but the CPSC advises everyone to request a replacement stand assembly in case of future use. Orders can be placed via Vizio's toll-free customer service on (855) 472-7450 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. CST. The operating hours are for weekdays through Friday and on weekends the orders can be placed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Customers can also get more details on the recall from Vizio's official website.

Vizio is also offering a warranty extension as an apology for the inconvenience caused. The TVs come with a standard one-year warranty from the date of purchase and affected customers will get an additional year.

Vizio televisions are available at renowned retail outlets across the United States at Target, Best Buy, and Wal-Mart among others.
