Fans of the original "BioShock" video game will be excited to hear that the game will be playable on iOS devices this summer.

The first installment in the BioShock franchise is one of the most popular games of the last console generation, according to PC Magazine. New touch controls will be made available for Apple's iPhone, iPad, and other mobile devices, as will full support for the Made for iPhone (MFi) game controller.

"BioShock delivers a true triple-A first-person shooter game experience on the iOS platform, by sending players on an underwater adventure to explore the submerged Art Deco city of Repture, fighting deranged survivors of a failed objectivist utopia and genetically modifying their own DNA to gain superhuman powers," said game developer 2K Games.

"BioShock" was developed in 2007 by Irrational Games, receiving a review score of 9.5 out of 10 by CNET sister site Gamespot, CNET reported.

The game is only the latest to be made available on mobile devices. A drop in sales of video games in the U.S. is pushing major publishers to launch their titles on smartphones and tablets. Mobile devices have already become a big spot for playing games in EA's Madden franchise.

The first-person shooter also received a review score of 9.7 out of 10 from PCMag sister site IGN, along with over 28 awards for its art, writing, audio, and overall quality, PC Magazine reported. Such awards include being named 2007 Game of the Year by BAFTA, Game Informer, Spike TV, and X-Play.

Bioshock's mobile release follows Irrational's announcement in February of its plans to shut down. The company decided to give its die-hard fans one final offering with the release of the "Burial at Sea-Episode Two" add-on pack for BioShock Infinite in March.
