A 150-pound tortoise that was found strolling on the streets of Los Angeles was reunited with its owners.

According to the Alhambra Police, the tortoise named Clark was given back to its family. Clark was ambling around Alhambra before the police retrieved it at the intersection of Sixth Street and Norwood Place at 1 p.m. Saturday, reports Tech Times.

"Since he was kind of heavy, two officers picked him up, put him in our trunk and transported him to our station," Sgt. Esther Rodriguez from the Alhambra Police Department told abcNEWS. The reptile was then placed in a kennel until the Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control arrived.

Police officials had posted Clark's photo  on its Facebook page. "Which is faster? The tortoise did try to make a run for it; but, our officers are pretty fast. Almost had a pursuit!" stated the Facebook post.

The post also stated that the turtle had distinct markings making it easier for the tortoise to be reunited with its owners. "I saw about (four) people around him who didn't know what to do and so I pulled over. He was friendly though and was eating grass and leaves and moving at a fast clip. The dude can move!" commented a Facebook user on the post.

The police also mentioned that it was illegal to keep tortoises as pets. "According to 21310 of the Penal Code, it is illegal to possess a (tortoise). We enjoy keeping families together, so an exception was made in this case," said the police department.
