A father and his 10-month-old son who were missing for four days were found dead in the mountains of Arkansas on Tuesday, the Associated Press reported.

Authorities found the bodies of 33-year-old Brian Floyd and his son Harper on Tuesday afternoon in a remote location of the Ouachita Mountain range, the AP reported. The baby was found at around 1:30 p.m., while his father was found an hour later.

The bodies are to undergo autopsies at the Arkansas crime lab.

"It's not the outcome we certainly had hoped for and our prayers and thoughts go out to the families involved," Yell County Sheriff Bill Gilkey said, the AP reported.

Gilkey did not say if their deaths were caused by an accident or homicide.

Floyd's wife, Brooke Floyd, was arrested following the disappearance of her family on Friday. The father and son were last seen after his truck broke down near the range's Blue Mountain Lake, KFSM reported.

Brooke Floyd, who was seen with her family Friday morning, was found that afternoon wandering by herself in the area some 80 miles west of Little Rock, the AP reported. She looked "cut up and scarred as if she had been in a wooded area," Gilkey said.

The wife was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a minor. She remained in jail on Tuesday as authorities piece together what happened.

"Investigators are still trying to get to the bottom of what caused the separation," the sheriff said according to the AP.

Brooke initially refused to cooperate with investigators but later led them to where the family truck was parked. At this time police cannot say if she is a suspect or a victim in the incident.

"Right now, it's still the same," Gilkey told the AP. "We're still in meetings, going back over everything that's happened since 1:30 p.m. last Friday."

Police are meeting with prosecutors over the next few days to determine how to proceed.
