Marvel Comics recently announced their first female Thor, now could the push for more female-centric superheroes cross over into a Marvel film? It's no secret that fans want to see a movie - and maybe a franchise - based off a female superhero and Marvel Cinematic Universe might be on their way towards making that a reality, CinemaBlend reports.

Recently Time magazine ran a story about Nicole Perlman, the first woman to write a Marvel movie. The 33-year-old is one of the writers behind "Guardians of the Galaxy," due out Aug. 1. Perlman opened up to Time about how she landed on the project and dropped a major hint about what's in store for future Marvel movies.

In the interview she explained that Marvel let her choose from a pool of potential films the studio was thinking about developing. On the list was "Guardians" and an unspecified film that "was a bit more appropriate... just based on gender."

"I can't tell you what the other titles were that they were offering up on the table, but I can tell you that one of them was a little bit more appropriate for me, just based on gender. I think they were a little taken aback when I chose 'Guardians,' because there were ones that would make a lot more sense if you were a romantic-comedy writer or something like that," she said.

Perlman said she began working on "Guardians" back in 2011 so Marvel must have been tossing around the idea of a female superhero movie for a few years now. Because of this, CinemaBlend thinks the studio could announce the secret project very soon.

"Seeing as Marvel Studio's master plan has a timeline reaching to 2028 and release dates set through 2019, it's looking more and more likely that a female-centric superhero movie is going to be announced any moment now," the site writes. "With five unannounced titles open on their calendar between now and 2019, a woman-led comic book movie seems extremely likely for the MCU's near future."

It's not clear which female-based projects Marvel had on the list but some of their characters include Storm, Invisible Woman and Ms. Marvel aka Carol Danvers.
