Verizon Wireless is extending its Network Optimization policy to unlimited 4G LTE subscribers in a bid to maintain consistency in user-experience across board.

Verizon Wireless, the largest wireless network carrier in the United States, is extending its Network Optimization policy to the high-speed 4G LTE subscribers on unlimited plans. It is capping the speeds of top 5 percent of data users for consistent speeds. The change will take effect October 1, 2014, but government organizations and businesses on major account agreement on internet connections along with contract customers are excluded from the change.

With network optimization in place for 4G LTE data abusers, top five percent of heaviest data users will experience slow speeds. The data will still work to upload images, send emails, stream music and videos but will get slower while using high-bandwidth apps such as streaming HD videos and online gaming. In fact, data speeds will slow down during peak times when the cell site experiences heavy traffic. Once the traffic is relaxed, heaviest data users will be reverted back to the original speeds, Verizon noted.

"We understand that our customers rely on their smartphones and tablets every day. Our network optimization policy provides the best path to ensure a continued great wireless experience for all of our customers on the best and largest wireless network in the U.S.," Mike Haberman, vice president - technology, for Verizon Wireless, said in a press release, last Friday.

The carrier also pointed that the vast majority of data customers will not experience any change in their data speeds. Additionally, contract based subscribers along with government organizations and businesses on a major account agreement for internet connections will not be affected with Verizon's Network Optimization policy.

Verizon has been focusing a lot on its broadband sector lately. The carrier boosted its FiOS upload speeds to match that of download speeds on its bundle services, earlier this month. In a separate report, Driod-Life speculated Verizon's decision to launch its nationwide 4G LTE on its prepaid network. There has been no update since the news first broke earlier this month.
