The Cleveland Cavaliers reportedly are planning to sign rookie Andrew Wiggins this week, which could delay a potential trade for Minnesota Timberwolves star Kevin Love.  Cleveland's slowness in signing Wiggins is about weighing salary cap options and has nothing to do with acquiring Love, according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN.

League sources told ESPN the Cavaliers plan to sign Wiggins to a contract sometime this week, and the delay has nothing to do with the team's purported pursuit of Love.

"Sources told ESPN.com that the Cavaliers' delay in signing the former Kansas star has nothing to do with the prospect of Wiggins being dealt to the Minnesota Timberwolves as part of Cleveland's ongoing trade discussions for Kevin Love," Windhorst wrote Sunday.  "The Cavaliers, sources say, are merely exploring options for using their estimated $1.4 million in remaining cap space before signing Wiggins to a contract that will pay him in the neighborhood of $5.5 million as a rookie."

Windhorst reported some of the options Cleveland is weighing include giving long-term contracts to second-round picks Joe Harris and Dwight Powell, something which couldn't be done if Wiggins signs first, or using the remaining $1.4 million cap space to sign free agent Ray Allen to a veteran's minimum deal.

Cleveland also has to finalize free agent Mike Miller's deal, worth $5.6 million over two years.

Signing Wiggins, though, would delay trading for Love.  NBA rules stipulate Wiggins is ineligible to be traded until 30 days after the day his contract is signed.

ESPN reported over the weekend Cleveland offered Wiggins and 2013 first overall pick Anthony Bennett to Minnesota in exchange for Love, whom Cavaliers star LeBron James purportedly is adamant about playing with in Cleveland.

The Cavaliers' stiffest competition for Love appears to be the Golden State Warriors, who reportedly are offering Minnesota a package that includes guard Klay Thompson and forwards David Lee and Harrison Barnes.
