A dozen passengers were rescued from a Universal Studios ride based on the "Transformers" movie after it broke down on Tuesday, WKMG-TV reported.

Twelve people were aboard "Transformers: The Ride- 3D," a simulation thrill ride inside a vehicle, when it malfunctioned and broke down.

"The sounds completely stopped, like someone hit mute on the TV," Casey Ruston, who was on the ride, told the station. "There was no sound, it was just going through the ride. All of a sudden everything went black and we stopped, like a complete halt."

Ruston said she and the passengers were on the ride for an hour before firefighters arrived to rescue them. Even though the ride is a car, the passengers could not get off by walking out because the ride stopped at a low point, WKMG-TV reported.

Photos from witnesses show rescuers walking down latters to reach the guests. No injuries were reported after all of the passengers were freed and the ride was up and running later on Tuesday.

"Early today, Transformers: The Ride 3-D experienced a technical glitch. We assisted a small number of guests off the ride. All guests are off the ride and everyone is safe and in good spirits," Alyson Lundell, director of public relations for the Orland-based theme park, told the station.

Universal Studios gave the rescued guests VIP passes and free lunch for the rest of the day.
