Apple is expected to delay the launch of its bigger iPhone model, the 5.5-inch iPhone 6, to sometime next year as the tech giant is facing production issues.

If you were anticipating the launch of the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 anytime this year, be prepared to be  disappointed. Several media reports have already confirmed that Apple is going to launch two models of iPhone 6 with different screen sizes in September. But the latest news comes from an industry analyst who says the Cupertino tech giant is likely to delay the launch of 5.5-inch iPhone model to 2015 citing production issues, according to AppleInsider.

At least one iPhone, which is the 4.7-inch model, will launch this year but without its companion phablet model. The information comes from a note by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, which was obtained by AppleInsider. According to the note, Apple is experiencing problems with a new technology in the device's in-cell touch panel and metal casing.

Kuo has a reputed track record in revealing Apple's product plans, hence, this adds more weight to the news of the delay.

According to the report, the problem with the new in-cell touch panel affects the display's touch sensitivity on the edges of the panel. Apple is experimenting with larger screens for the first time ever, after having its previous generations of iPhones not exceed more than four inches. Another issue Apple is facing is with the color unevenness on the new metal casing for its larger iPhone.

The analyst said the possibility is that the 5.5-inch model will be delayed till 2015, but Kuo hopes for the device to debut this year. Even with that possibility, the larger iPhone won't set foot in the market until after mid-November. But a 2014 launch will help Apple gain on the holiday sales in December.

A separate report from earlier this month revealed that Apple is using sapphire crystal for its 4.7-inch iPhone model, making it scratch-less and hard to break. The tech giant has not confirmed any reports or even hinted toward the new iPhone models.
