As Katie Holmes makes more adjustments to her life as a single mother, she has now bought a new house in a more family-friendly area in Midtown NYC.

Katie Holmes is handling singlehood pretty well after her highly publicized divorce from actor Tom Cruise. She started a new career as a fashion designer, was linked to a few leading men in Hollywood and now she's moving from Manhattan's trendy Chelsea neighborhood to a more family-friendly area in Midtown NYC. According to media reports, she wants daughter Suri Cruise to grow up in a safer and friendlier environment. The apartment came for $4 million.

"She is buying in a more neighborhood-y area," a source told Us Magazine of Holmes' new home. "The place has three bedrooms, and she needs to do some work to it but not much."

The actress recently made headlines for her topless photo shoot for Glamour Magazine's August issue. The "Giver" star opened up to the magazine about her divorce from Tom Cruise and how life's been for her post the split.

"I am really focused on motherhood and work right now," the single star told the magazine. "Motherhood is the greatest gift. When I became a mother, my life completely changed."

She also spoke to the magazine about her love for New York city.

"I love being able to experience so many cultural things in one day. I live very close to the gallery district, and then at night I'll find myself at Lincoln Center at a ballet," she said. "I love going to Knicks games. And I love taking the subway."

The actress recently wrapped shooting the film adaptation of "The Giver" in South Africa. Recent rumors have it that the actress is dating her co-star Alexander Skarsgard. They have been spending a lot of time together off-set too. They two play a romantic married couple in the movie. According to sources, Holmes is using this excuse to explain her rendezvous with Skarsgard but "no one is buying it."

"Katie and Alex are getting on like a house on fire and she's crushing on him big time. He's a bit of a ladies' man and they've spent loads of time on their own rehearsing lines in her trailer. They clicked right from the start and have been spending a lot of time away from the set together," a source from the film told British magazine Heat, according to Kpopstarz.com.

On March 11, it was confirmed that the Dawson's Creek alum would also be returning to television in an ABC pilot. The series is currently untitled, but has been described as a "high society drama." She will play Ann, a well-bred and educated woman who runs a philanthropic foundation with her husband, according to Entertainment Weekly.
