Columbus Short is finally speaking out about his recent run-in with the law.

During an interview with Access Hollywood's Billy Bush on Monday the 31-year-old actor explained his arrest for public intoxication at local bar Katy Trail Ice House in Dallas, Texas over the Fourth of July weekend. According to the New York Post, Short claimed the most recent incident was a misunderstanding.

"There was no fight. I was involved in no fight," Short explained. "I was with a group of people that were eating, I went to the bathroom, I came back and there was an altercation ensuing when I came back. And me being [like] 'Whoa, let's break it up,' it was a misunderstanding and I guess the cops thought I was someone involved in the situation."

Short added: "They grabbed me up, and by the time I was on the ground... I apologized to the officers later, [but] I said some pretty choice words [when] I was already in cuffs."

At the time of his arrest Short reportedly ran up a tab for four hours. He was later confronted by security who thought the actor was trying to leave without paying his bill. The two parties were involved in a verbal and physically altercation.

The actor called the situation "one of those bad nights" and added that he is not the person the press made him out to be. Short also commented on his divorce, alleged suicide-murder threat against his wife and being fired from "Scandal."

During the interview, Short said his divorce is nearly final, adding that he often struggled with alcohol in the past.

"The last three months, I have to say, have been one of the most trying times of my life," he said. "I think there's a time when your personal life gets magnified by who we are as celebrities. I've always believed that the truth is good enough, like, sometimes the truth is ugly, right? And it's good enough, but I think what happens in the media is they make grandiose versions of these stories."
